To condole his demise, Indian Association of Lawyers (Kerala High Court Unit) has arranged a condolence meeting at the Kerala High Court Bar Council in Ernakulam on March 27.
Presiding over the meeting, Justice Mr. Devan Ramachandran elaborated about the admirable qualities of the late lawyer.
“I know Mr Rajendran since more than 25 years. He was a gem of a person and easily connected with everyone including the young lawyers without any attitude. Ever smiling face, magnanimity and simplicity were his key qualities, ”
Recalling his time of practice, Justice said Mr Rajendran used to address junior lawyers and other younger people fondly as ‘mone’ (son), echoing the care he had on others.
“Mr Rajendran felt very proud and happy as my parents when I became a Justice,” he recalled.
The Judge has also called upon the young lawyers to know about the achievements of famous lawyers like Mr Rajendran.
Addressing the condolence meeting, Mr Gopalakrishna Kurup, Advocate General, said Advocate V.Rajendran was a member of Bar Council for more than a decade and served very well during his tenure. He was earlier practicing at Paravoor, Perumbavoor and Aluva and later in High Court.
“Rajendran was very friendly and kind hearted and our friendship is quite memorable one, “ Kurup added.
Mr. K.P.Jayachandran, Additional Advocate General, said, “When his father was the top notch CPI leader and the chief minister, both Mr.Rajendran and his brother Mr.Kesavankutty involved themselves in several social works including extending their care towards Balwadis in Trivandrum areas.”
Mr.V.Rajendran was one of the founders of Indian Association of Law (IAL) and he served as the state president for IAL’s High Court unit for a longtime, he summed up.
He also said IAL is to conduct a training camp for junior lawyers in Trissur on April 6th for which the association has roped in senior most advocates to take classes for the juniors. Mr.Rajendran has agreed to train the junior lawyers in the IAL camp, but unfortunately he is not there with us today, he added.
In his speech, Mr. K.N.Anilkumar, former chairman of High Court Bar Council, said that when Mr. Rajendran served as the president of Perumbavoor Bar Council he remained as the secretary. Almost half the total cases tried in Perumbavoor courts were handled by Mr.Rajendran and his juniors. Rajendran’s office was always busy and he along with his juniors were flying in attending their cases. Rajendran was top most lawyer while he was practicing there.
He also highlighted that Mr.V.Rajendran never used his father’s political power nor enjoyed any privileges. Anilkumar recalled that Rajendran’s daughter Ms.Rasmi Manjunath (now practicing as an advocate in Hosur, Tamil Nadu) was born in the ‘Rose House’, the government residence where Mr PKV was residing as the Chief Minister then. But Mr. Rajendran never visited the CM’s “Rose House and chose to see his new born child in the hospital. He never stepped into his father’s Chief Minister’s official residence.
Whenever someone passes away, usually their close relative and friends used to mourn. However in the case of Rajendran, he said the entire legal fraternity in Kerala, his clients and general public in large mourned deeply to the core.
Mr.A.Jayasankar, IAL National President, said Rajendran was very inspiring person. Any discussions that he had with the late lawyer was very healthy and informative. His kindness and helping nature was very popular among the fraternity.
Advocate Associaiton Secretary Mr. Nandkumar said that Mr. Rajendran was very polite even when arguing at court with the opponent counsel. He said the High Court campus was in need of a canteen, for which the association has approached Mr.Rajendran.
Immediately Mr. Rajendran, who was the legal advisor to renowned ‘Indian Coffee House’ chain of hotels, has roped their service and helped to set up a hygienic canteen by Indian Coffee House in the high court premises.
Mrs Sarada Mohanbabu, sister of Rajendran and first daughter of PKV, shared that after their father, her brother Mr.Rajendran stood as a pillar to the family. Amidst his tight schedule as a busy lawyer, she said her brother used to remain attentive to all family matters and he stood as a fatherly figure for everyone. “Now we are all jeopardized without him, said Sarada Mohanbabu, who is also a staunch CPI party cadre and currently serving as District Council member from Kaladi division.
Siva Shivani Manjunath, granddaughter of Advocate Mr.V.Rajendran, read a heartfelt condolence poem, recalling “how nice was her advocate grandfather” that touched the attendees. Ms Shivani said her grandfather was her inspiration to study law degree.
Shivani’s Tribute poem:-
“There Is Always Time
There is always time—or so I believed,
Never knowing how soon you would leave.
There was always time to meet, I thought,
Yet our last embrace was one we never got.
There was always time to talk, to share,
But fate was cruel, unkind, unfair.
A final call, a fleeting word,
If only I’d known, if only I’d heard.
Had I known, I’d have spoken more,
Etching your voice in my heart’s deep core.
More and more, I would have said,
To keep you near, though you have fled.
Even the skies wept when you went,
As if mourning the soul they had sent.
What do we do, now left behind?
Who will guide us, strong and kind?
For the light itself has dimmed today,
Yet in our hearts, you’ll always stay.
The warmth you left, the love you gave,
A story eternal, beyond the grave.
There is always time—so I believed,
Never knowing how soon you would leave.”
Shivani has also thanked the IAL, Kerala Bar Council for arranging a condolence meeting for Mr.V.Rajendran.
