diabetesDiabetes is one of the most feared and common lifestyle diseases across the globe. The World Health Organisation has expressed concern about the rapid increase of the disease in the last thirty years or so.

The main worry over diabetes is, it is an irreversible condition caused by excess sugar levels in the blood. Certain diet and lifestyle changes can alone keep it under control.

If it is not managed properly, diabetes can lead to many serious conditions including obesity and even stroke.

But, there is a easy, or tasty, way to manage blood sugar levels. It is- eating stuffed bajra-paneer paratha.

Millet magic

Bajra or pearl millet is a gluten-free pseudo-grain that comes with many nutritional properties that would help manage diabetes.

Rich in proteins, Bajra has complex carbs that take longer to absorb in our digestive tract, further leading to satiety. Also, bajra is rich in insoluble fibre.

Says Dr Shivani Vivekanand, “the presence of slowly digestible starch and fibre content takes more time to convert to glucose. This goes a long way in controlling diabetes and offering a sustained energy release. Bajra is also a rich source of magnesium, which is linked with a lowered risk of diabetes.”
