Tomato price started coming down in Hosur following tomato arrivals increasing in the past two days.
The country tomatoes were sold at Rs 30-40 a kg while hybrid price stood at Rs 50 at the Muneeswara Nagar wholesale market in Hosur.
It may be noted that the tomato price touched Rs 100 a week ago following heavy rains damaged crops in Hosur and surrounding areas. Although a few retail shops are still selling tomato at higher rates, the vendors in Muneeswara Nagar wholesale market reduced the price to Rs 30-40 a kg.
Royakottai mandi near Hosur industrial town is known as the major Tomato market in Tamil Nadu. The 20 kg crate of tomato was sold at Rs 1600 in the wholesale mandi itself a week ago.
Tomato loads are sent to various places in Tamil Nadu and Kerala from Royakottai market. Due to rains, the supply from Royakottai market disrupted in the past 15 days, market watchers said.
The farmers in the villages like Dinnakazhani, Malaisandhu, Bellampalli, Baleguri, Madhepatti, Udhanapalli, Kelamangalam, Denkanikotta, Soolagiri and Agaram are completely carrying out tomato cultivation.
