Hosur Corporation households to pay underground drainage levy

Individual houses in Hosur Corporation may need to pay deposit amount towards the implementation of underground drainage system in Hosur town.

The government has proposed to introduce underground drainage system in Hosur City Municipal Corporation as to effectively manage the drainage. The work is estimated to be taken up with the tune of Rs 575 crore in the first phase.

Of the total estimate, the central government will share Rs 170.56 crore while the state government to contribute Rs 155.06 crore. The remaining Rs 249.34 crore is supposed to be borne by Hosur Municipal Corporation. But due to the shortage of funds with HMC, it is said that the loan would be raised to meet the project.

To appraise about the project to elected members, a day ago the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water and Drainage Board has conducted a meeting in the presence of Hosur Corporation Commissioner D.Sneha and Mayor S.A.Sathya.

Phase of works

It was said in the meeting that the first phase of underground drainage work will be carried out fully in 27 out of the total 45 wards while part work will be carried out in 12 wards. However the work in the remaining six wards along with the remaining work in 12 wards will be executed in the second phase.

In total, the pipeline will be laid for a stretch of 325.125 kms in the first phase with a chamber in every 30 mts . The system will also have 37 lifting stations and 11 pumping stations.

Although it is not very clear in the preliminary stage, it is said that Rs 7,200 deposit may be charged for the houses upto 600 sqft and RS 10,000 may attract the houses upto 1,200 sqft, official sources said.

The official sources further said the deposit amount may increase as per the area of the house.
