Krishnagiri MP Dr A Chellakumar said the Krishnagiri rail line project proposal is moving in positive direction.
Mr Chellakumar said, “One of my main election promises was to connect Krishnagiri through rail transport.”
Initially, the railway department was in the impression that this rail project may incur loss to the department. However, I have appraised them about the possible profits through this rail line with facts and statistical pictures to convince the railway department.
Based on this, the railway department higher officials have taken up feasibility study and reviews by visiting the district for three times. Recently I have participated in the officials’ meeting held in Chennai and pressed about this project, Mr Chellakumar said.
“Currently the department is said to be preparing project estimation report. We are expecting good news soon in this regard,” he added.
The OnLook Observation
The OnLook observation reveals that the railway department is currently taking survey to implement seven new rail projects in Tamil Nadu. During the latest railway budget it was also announced of reviewing several possible rail line projects in Southern railway, increasing hopes for Krishnagiri rail project too.
Currently the department is taking survey on laying rail line between Hosur to Tirupattur through Krishnagiri for 101 kms.
Krishnagiri is well connected by road of national highways that include Krishnagiri–Chennai NH 48, Tindivanam–Krishnagiri NH 77, Krishnagiri–Madanapalli NH 42 and Srinagar–Kanyakumari via Krishnagiri NH 44.
But without railway connectivity, the industrial prospectus remains bleak for this district headquarters. Presently, the nearest railway stations for Krishnagiri are Dharmapuri (45 km), Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh (35 km), Jolarpet (48 km) and Rayakotta (30 km).
If Krishnagiri gets the railway line, it will be a big boost for overall economy of the district, experts said.
